without 4,10's ??? your missing a great power
As you all know I went from 3,55's to 4,10's then to 3,73's and I just today went back to 4,10's and I tell you all,,,,,,,,,these cars were mente to run 4,10's as its such a night and day change,
what power it has with 4,10's man!!! if you have not tried them, I cannot recommend another mod until you have. I bet it would take 50 plus HP and 50 Lbs TQ to make a 3,55 gear feel like 4,10's do

I was going to go with 4:10's when I did my solid axle, but I went with the 3.73's instead. For now it's good enough for me. If I ever have to take the rear end out again I will more than likely go with the 4.10 gears...................I may end up getting a Carbon Fiber Drive shaft later on down the road as well

if your making any HP at all and you go to 4:10's that will bring the threshold down where your drive shaft if its screwed up like mine was you will have vibrations, then you will have go with a carbon shaft to solve the vibration issue that right now you will not notice unless you go out and drive over a hundred or more,
the 373 are nothing like 410's,,,not even close |

I'm not missing out on the power from the 4.10's. *cough* 4.30's here *cough* LOL. I'm switching them out though. But I will say that it definately has some serious pull with gears in it.

4:30's UH????? Dang!!!!! your Cyropractor must love you,,,,,
I know with these 4:10's the pull is so incredible,,,,the other thing I wanted to tell you all is today was the very first time I had to test to see if I was going to get vibrations with the 4:10 gears back in a 80 MPH and up. its fine, I can run right on up to 130 MPH with absolutly no drive shaft vibration,,,,,Viva the Carbon shaft |

The best all around gear for these cars is a 4:10. As stated previously, you would not feel a big difference between a 3.90 and a 3.73 like you would a 4.10. JMHO!

knowing how much better the 03-04's run all the way around with 4:10's
do those of you folks in the know think Ford used 3:55's mainly for fuel economy? Noise? or why? I can tell you right not that my car will get to its max top end better with 4:10's in it than it would have with 3:55's,,,,,,So the idea Ford wanted to keep the RPM down for all those German Autobahn drivers is not going to hold up, it makes no sence in a way, it must be for fuel economy because with the 470 HP in combination with 4:10's my car absolutly rocks right up thru every gear and does not struggle at all and still climbing as it went thru 135 MPH before I chickened out, but it would have kept going no problem, and I just had 3:73's two days ago and I can promiss you it would not have kept pulling thru a buck thirty five at the rate it was climbing today, Was it on this board when someone did some math and calculated these cars with stock gearing,,that if one had enough HP the 3:55's would take it to 202 MPH before red lining in sixth gear??? I heard that somewhere,,,anyone else hear that?? |

Ive heard they pull through 4th, but quickly run out of gear after that...Ive ridden in a GT with 4.10's and it made it feel a lot more powerful, but a quick highway run with a SRT-4 shut him up real quick b/c he ran out of gear

Sounds like the 4.10s give a good kick and do a great job of transferring the power to the rear wheels.
My only concerns are a minor one: that the gear maxes you out too quickly thus reducing top speed (even if I was never able to try to go that fast) and what I consider to be a major concern: How do you keep tires on it for any length of time? I find it too easy to loose traction and spin the back wheels as it is and only got just under 9k miles out of the stock tires. The Khumos I replaced them with seem to be doing better but still loose traction at times and I hope to go to 315s next time around. Now I know my car is still stock so your extra power will up your top speed. However, is the tire problem common, or is it more the driver trying to get used to the car since other than our dump truck the only other manual cars I had driven were way down on power compared to this one (Escort & Subaru)?

On the street I have zero traction with 3.55s in 1rst & 2nd as it is... Without stickies on steeper gears I'd be an easy mark for just about anything

the concerns about the 4:10's working well then maxing out on a Cobra is not true,
Guess it was an issue on a GT but not on a Cobra, with the 4:10's I pull strong on the interstate all the way up, Its kind of funny because in sixth gear, with 3:55's right at 80 MPH my RPM was like 2350 and with 4:10's its only around 2700 RPM at 80 MPH. thats only 350 RPM more for all that extra pull, and I can tell you now that with 4:10's its still pulling strong in 5th gear as speed increases,,,,,,and man is that Carbon shaft sweet and steady even at a buck thirty five,,,soon as I can find a safe place im going to see how fast it will go,, Has anyone ever gone real fast?? hit me with some real numbers and RPM's |

The drop of a few mpg isn't an issue for most, nor is the decreased top end (who drives 170+ ?). Smokin' the hides at the drop of the hat isn't always fun when a Honda is strollin' on by. It's nice to have the power - I'd rather put what I make to the ground. If I had 4.10s I'd lose third on the street, too.

Kilroy, is what your saying, that the HP your making now, is so much that your spinning tires now with 3,55's in first and maybe second, and if you went to 4,10's you would not only spin tires in those gears but also third too?
how much HP are you putting to the rear wheels now that you have this unfortuate problem? |

Kilroy,
I know what you mean. I run 3.73's and I think they are too much gear for my HP level. I can smoke the tires in first second and third gears. It is fun at first but having to baby the car off the line so I don't sit in one spot and spin is NOT cool. I usually give up a car or two lengths off the start, thank God I have the power to make it up!
