Roll Bar & Harnesses have been ordered

A little off-season excitement.

I ordered an Autopower Roll Bar and 2 Five Point Harnesses for the Cobra.

Is it Spring Yet???

As much fun as it is running at Gingerman Raceway, it might be more fun just
hanging out with other SCMC members at the track. Come on out and give
it a try. You have a great time.

I do enjoy helping and running around watching everyone race.

OK, so I have taken delivery of the Roll Bar. Now, any suggestions on paint?

I don't have access to a powder coater so I was thinking about...

Prepare with degreaser, scotch bright pads then alcohol wipe.

One good coat of black primer
Two heavy coats of gloss black
One heavy coat of clear protective paint.

I have ability to use spray cans or small air gun.

Any suggestions or previous experiences that might help me out?

Didn't it come in painted? I order one from MM and I'm hoping that it comes in painted.

Jeff,
I thought all Autopowers came with a crappy light coat of black paint that usually gets scratched up during shipment.

It sounds like you have a good plan. Don't sweat it too much, once you have all the padding on there really isn't much roll bar showing. And if something ugly does show, just add more padding

Did you get the diagonal and harness bars? Bolt in or weld in?

Excellent installation instructions here:

Tom,

The website calls for black paint but my bar arrived bar with a moderate coating of light grease or heavy oil???

I bought the bolt in bar. I might tack weld it in a few spots after install. I have not decided yet.

The roll bar came with the bolt in harness bar. Can't wait to hit the track
wearing a safety harness. Getting tired of trying to keep my pot belly in the
seat while going through corners.

As it turns out, a gearhead I work with has friend that owns a powder coat
shop. He is supposed to get me a price. (Keep fingers crossed).

Next year I hit the track with rollbar, safety harnesses, and track tires.
Hope my high expectations don't put me DEEP in the weeds.

Jeff, my bar is bolted in, I don't think there's any real need to weld it as long as you use the correct hardware and backing plates. I actually wanted the welded in harness and diagonal braces, but found a great deal on a used bar with the bolt in harness and diagonal braces.

You'll need a patient friend to help maneuver the bar in and out a few times, but the whole install is pretty straight forward. The method of using PVC pipe for marking the wholes in the interior panels works great, just be sure to mark the main hoop location, and measure from the braces to the side of the car, as well as using the angle finder.

BTW, I had 5 point harnesses in the Mystic and put 6 point in Black Betty. I definitley prefer the 6 point and installation is simpler too.
