Sync Headlines Canadian International Auto Show

SYNC HEADLINES CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

By Rosemarie Pao
Special to FCN Online

TORONTO -- The day began with applause for Ford SYNC™, which brought home the Best New Technology Award recently at the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS).

Ford SYNC won the award from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) beating out the two other finalists in the category: the Audi Aluminum Space Frame and the Lexus Advanced Pre-Collision System.

With hundreds of media in attendance at Ford's press conference, Barry Engle made his first public appearance as president and CEO of Ford of Canada.

Hosting the event prior to the public opening of the show, media were able to speak to Engle and also see the Canadian premiere of the following Ford vehicles:

2009 Ford F-150

As Canada's best-selling pickup truck for 42 consecutive years, the F-150 is the most capable truck in the industry with a stronger stance and 'smarter' features such as an industry exclusive integrated box side step, trailer sway mitigation, integrated trailer brake controller and much more.

2008 Foose F-150

Chip Foose, star of TV's Overhaulin', presented the 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition at the CIAS. Foose's design visually lowers the truck in the boulevard-cruiser spirit while maintaining the Ford F-150's Built Ford Tough pedigree.

2009 Ford Flex

The Canadian-built Ford Flex redefines the modern North American family journey with a full-size crossover that sets a new standard for style, cool features, functionality, safety, leading technology and comfort in the industry's hottest segment.

2009 Lincoln MKS

The all-new 2009 Lincoln MKX is a full-size luxury sedan that aims to attract new buyers with its timeless design, fuel-efficient powertrain and an unparalleled suite of features and technologies.

Mustang Bullitt

Four decades after hitting the big screen and redefining the on-screen car chase, the Ford Mustang Bullitt returns to the streets in 2008, blending the best Mustang ever with the latest Ford Racing technology.

Also at this year's CIAS were three incredible concepts:

Airstream

The Ford Airstream Concept is a futuristic look at crossovers. It's the ultimate modern touring vehicle that delivers flexibility and capability with dynamic design that evokes the spirit of journey.

Flex Foose Concept

Also presented at this year's CIAS, the Flex Foose Concept transformed the original Flex, adding a look of contemporary suburban luxury that accentuates its already stand-out good looks.

Interceptor

The Ford Interceptor Concept celebrates the best of North American muscle with a four-door that combines the "Built Ford Tough" attitude with the sporty elegance of 1960s sedan.

This lineup garnered a positive reaction from attending media that was reflected in their stories over the days following the press conference:

"The 2009 Ford F-150 -- the new edition of North America's best-selling vehicle -- is your must-see."
-- Dan Proudfoot, The Globe and Mail

"If you're the kind of guy who buys a Valentine's card for your truck, you'll be happy to know that the newest Ford F-150 (now the 12th generation and coming later this year), will be at the Toronto show…if you do buy one [Foose F-150], you'll own the most powerful half-ton pickup currently on the market."
-- Howard Elmer, The Toronto Star

"If you want to trade in that minivan or sport-utility for a vehicle that can haul six or seven -- and look good while getting the job done -- now may be a good time. Crossovers are the hottest ride on the road ... the Flex, built at Ford's Oakville plant, is also one of the examples of retro chic on the floor of this year's Toronto auto show."
-- Angela Forgeron, The Toronto Star

"Everybody loves free stuff. Car guys and gals may love free stuff more than most, as car swag is usually pretty cool. Perhaps the coolest and useful of the bunch were Ford and Suzuki who offered their press kits on a branded USB key."
-- Gary Grant,The Garage Blog

"Ford kicks off the year with a 10 percent increase in sales and a raft of new vehicles."
-- Richard Russell, Sympatico MSN

"Ford's F-150, meanwhile, is beefier and stronger, as befits the upgraded version of Canada's best-selling vehicle. The new F-150 is certainly a step up, literally."
-- Jeremy Cato, The Globe and Mail
