Speedo Just Died

I was at CMP and on Sunday during one of my sessions my Speedometer just died. Everything else works in the dash, but not the speedo. Only 16,000 miles on the car. Anybody have any ideas??

Thanks

That's correct...I am still looking. My speedo (and odometer) work once every week or so for up to a minute! That means it's not a fuse, I replaced the speedo gear in the cluster (see http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...highlight=dash that Mikey (CasperCobra) started), and I replaced the VSS...therefore, I think my problem is in the wiring somewhere.

You should eventually get a code (probably P0500 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction) and you can read about that in the link above provided by Phil.

I wish I had more to share...please let us know if you find out the problem.

Checked with a code reader today and no codes at all. I will have to check the tranny. Hopefully I won't have to go to Ford!

I would start with the vss there should be a way to test it, can contact ford dealer about how to test this part. I would recommend steve at tousley ford you can find him on svtperformance as fordsvtparts. He will get you 10% over cost on parts and knows his stuff in the svt world.

It turns out that I was lucky. The wiring that attaches to the back of the tranny on the passengers side was unplugged. The guys that did my exhaust used this wire to zip tie on of the oxygen sensor clips and it finally pulled it off the tranny. Don't know if I can get the clip to hold, but the speedo works again! I appreciate the help!
