It would cost you more money to try and covert over to a 03-04 Cobra Eaton then it would to go with the KB, plus with the KB you have more room to grow in HP later on when you feel the car starting to get slower.

if im not mistaken the 96-98 kb cobra setups are non intercooled if they are then they are a waste of money and you would be better off going turbo or putting a centrifugal blower on. Without intercooler forced induction can be trying at times to say the least.

yeah just looked on their website and the 96-98 kit is non-innercooled so I wouldn't recommend it.

The price is going to be hefty either way, but you can buy a complete 03/04 motor sometimes for between 5-8k eaton to oil pan.

Without that innercooler temps are going to get really hot and as air temps go up the car needs to pull timing to counteract this. The problem is the IAT is located upstream on the 96-98 cobras if I recall correctly and if so then it wont be able to measure the heat of the air after the blower unless its relocated to somewhere after the blower.

On the 03's theres a 2nd iat sensor located after the blower that allows it to read the temperature of the air after it goes through the blower and can adjust for temperatures.

The KB method may be okay if you use a methanol injection. I have a friend with a 98 Cobra with a KB on it. He uses the windshield wiper resivior for the methanol. A better combination would be to use a centrifugal type or turbo plus an air charge cooler to keep the temps down. The turbo would be the best bet since the technology has improved over the years (especially with the programmable waste gates which gives you the option to adjust the boost electronically).

The heads are different. Changes were made to the heads in 1999 on up. There were some issues with the 2001 and 2003 castings which was changed in early 2003. The differences with the 04/04 heads other than the higher cfm flow rates are the exhaust ports. If you do opt for the 03/04 heads, you will have to also replace the headers. I am not sure if the FR500 heads would mate up with the Eaton. You would probable save money going with a crate engine and get every thing complete (including processor, forged internals with lower compression ratio, as well as different cams). After doing that, you will need to replace the fuel tank, and complete fuel system. Actually if you want to go that route, it would cost less to buy a used 03/04 Cobra than to do the mods.

I'd say go with a single turbo setup...will run more efficiently and have less of a parasitic effect
