Rollbars

I am looking for some advice on rollbars for track events. I have a vert so no one will let me on. I have done some autox but I really would like to open it up. I need to keep all 4 seats in place. Any help is appreciated, Thanks Mike

The Autopower Race Roll bar is what you need:

I have a custom roll bar for my 03 so that I did not have to cut holes in the side panels. You will have to cut holes in the panels otherwise. The same person that made mine made one for another member with an 01 vert and he did not have to remove any seats and supposedly could still seat his kids in the back. Go to www.competitioncages.com and check out Marc Terhorst's car for info on this. I am not sure I would want anyone sitting in the back with a rollbar installed for safety reasons.

Yes, I love my autopower roll bar. great fit and you can keep the back seat, if you want too.

BTW, when i bought mine it was cheaper to buy it from a Maximum Motorsports dealer than it was to buy it direct from autopower.

More food for thought. I had a 6-pt. bolt-in roll bar fabricated at Piper Motorsports. http://pipermotorsports.com/ I wanted to have a bar for the track, but have the car look completely stock with it out. Check out this slideshow. It shows my fabrication and the end result. Mine is the black w/silver stripes.

Also inlcuded some others who followed my lead - but made some custom changes. The red stripe bar allows for both front seats to go further back to accomodate the owner and son who are both 6' 5".

Piper has done 4 or 5 sets by now. I think he's looking at making a kit that you can have your local guy install.

And ditto on above - never have anyone in the rear seat with the bar installed. The seat is in there for looks alone - it looks like hell without it.

Maximum 4-Point Bar

I installed a Maximum Motorsports MMRB-14.3 4-Point, bolt in with removable harness mount tube in my '01 vert, no cutting of the side panels. For daily driving the harness tube is removed so you can toss things in the back seat One tip, this rollbar came unpainted, hadn't figured in the additional labor $ to paint and prep. I have not unbolted and removed the bar since installation so can't attest to the ease of removal. Really tightened the car up.

The Autopower bar in our 01 vert did not require cutting any panels. I cut the carpet and massaged the rear seat back to go around the rear support bars.

I'm very happy with the Autopower 4 pt bolt-in rollbar with removeable diagonal and horizontal cross braces I have in my car.

Its made to install so you can retain your rear seats for looks. I'd never allow anyone to ride back there, whether they were belted in or not.

I originally thought I wanted to be able to bolt the rollbar in for track days and take it out for the street & car shows, as it only takes me about 4 hours to swap everything, but I find it more of a hassle, so I mostly keep it in.
Here are some pics:

+100000000 on the autopower/maximum motorsports rollbar. I one in my 03 vert, fit perfect, and no cutting of the side plastics. I now have a custom bar in my 97 vert. As for Flyboys...I agree it looks sweet. And I have a cdc light bar in my vert as well, but it has to come out when I put the rollbar in. According to SCCA regulations, flyboys is not legal. I wasn't going to dump a ton of money into a custom bar, and then still not be legal for the track. There is a specific angle that the downtubes must leave the main hoop, and to get it to fit under the cdc lightbar, it is below the min requirement.

Here is my current "removable set-up"

Wow. Thanks for raining on my parade. The bar is perfectly legal.

My car and several others - have been to several track events. There has never been a problem with any tech inspection - with either the 4-pt. or 6-pt. setup. So - let's dispense with the inflammatory rhetoric. If you're happy with what you've done with your car, then fine. Leave it at that.

I was in no way raining on your parade, just simply stating information. That according to SCCA regulations, the angle of your downtubes is below the minimum required, thus not 100% open-track legal. I agree, and understand that many events that you might participate in, which various groups, it might pass inspection. I just stated that I wanted a rollbar that would pass any inspection, with any group that I would want to run with, SCCA, NASA, SCMC, etc.... I was just passing on information that I can accross when doing my research on installing my rollbar in my 97 vert, which also has a cdc lightbar, so that the original poster "CBRA1" has as much information as possible when he makes his final decision on a rollbar.

Appendix G, Section F of the 2008 SCCA Rule Book
F. Bracing: The main roll hoop shall have two braces extending to the rear attaching to the frame or chassis. Braces shall be attached as near as possible to the top of the main hoop not more than six (6) inches below the top and at an included angle of at least thirty (30) degrees. On cars where the rear window/bulkhead prohibits the installation of rear braces (e.g., Honda del Sol), the main hoop shall be attached to the body by plates welded to the cage and bolted to the stock shoulder harness mounting points. This installation design must also incorporate a diagonal bar connecting the top of the main hoop to the lower front passenger side

In the interest of full disclosure - the down brace angle on my rollbar is between 35-40 degrees. I imagine the fabricator you engaged had other challenges with your car - or simply set it up differently. It could be due to the difference in our model years. Though for the 05-10 frame, the 4-pt. and 6-pt roll bar that Piper Motorsports fabricates does indeed meet specs.

You mentioned the research you've done on roll bars which is why you knew about the 30 degree spec. I'd suggest in the future, before you make dismissive statements on someone else's equipment - that you research their equipment, as well, first.
