Question Need honest, expert help please

I bought a '98 Cobra SVT with 97,000 miles from a private party in Nov'06 for $8500 for my 18yr old daughter. I probably paid too much(?). It has a carbon fiber hood(has hood pins). 5 speed manual with a short shift. New transmission. New racing clutch. Custom exhaust. Lowered 2 inches. 19 inch rims. Leather interior. Power steering. Power locks. Power windows. Rear defrost. When I bought it, it had the original Cobra engine. Because it was during the winter months, she only drove it about 1/2 dozen times, when it developed a rod knock. I have been told the knock could have been caused because she wasn't accustomed to the racing clutch. A mechanic friend of hers had found a Ford engine on eBay and drove the car to ensure that the engine was in good working condition. So we bought the engine. However, since then, her friend has been too busy to come back and finish the repairs due to work committments and his involvement in racing from April thru November. So, I have had the Cobra in my garage with the eBay Ford engine on a hydraulic lift.

The body and interior are, in my opinion, very good condition.

My question is what I should expect to sell it for? I have waited this long because I thought, perhaps, her friend would find time to come back, but since it's been so long, I don't think that it is going to happen.

I would very much appreciate honest opinions, even if you tell me that I paid too much for it to begin with.

Anyway, thanks for any guidance somone could give me.

do you still have the original motor? Is the new motor a "Cobra" motor, or just a Ford Racing engine? Hard to say how much it would sell for, car does look nice, aside from the steering wheel. That condition is typical for a car with those miles.

Thanks for the reply nckissfan. I'll have to call my daughter to get you those answers. She's married to a Marine and stationed at 29 Palms, CA, but I should be able to reach her this afternoon.

(I know - - my ignorance is one of the reasons I shouldn't have bought it for her to begin with...)

Nothing wrong with what you did. The price may be a little high for a car with those miles but it's really not that far off. I would try to find someone else who can install the engine for you. It sounds like you want to sell the car and the engine as an aside, you may have a problem with that since no one can actually listen to the engine you have on the stand.
