transmission noise

03 Cobra. Noise when I shift from neutral to a gear, loudest in first. Not a grinding, just a whoosing noise. Ok in neutral. Gets louder as engine warms up. Shifts ok and no other issues other.

The whoosh sound may be synchros when shifting into gear, but only if the car is moving. If you hear it while the car is not moving, it would be something else like a TOB or even the clucth + flywheel assy.

It could also be the shifter. Aftermarket shifters are noisy compared to the factory installed one due to lack of bushings.

If your clutch is worn down completely you will also get an odd sound. I have worn the first clutch to bare metal. It still grabbed really good so the Ford service was uncertain as to what was making the noise. The TOB was shot as well. The noise got worse when the engine heated up. I doubt that this is the issue you are having. How many miles are on it?
