My history with the 1995 Cobra R

It was back in late 1994 that I read about the 1995 Cobra R. I knew that I had to have one. I called the area dealers and found one. I drove up (~10 miles) and offered MSRP. I didn't get it.

I then watched all of those IMSA, Speedvision Cup, Motorola Cup, and GAC Cup races on SpeedTV (1995-2003).

I found one later (~2001) in Buffalo, NY. I hooked up my trailer and brought my copy of the SVT Mustang Cobra Recognition Guide. I was going to verify it as a 95R.

He opened the garage, and I knew that the car was going to GA.

It's been fun. One guy pulled me over once and explained that I had a fake Cobra. My car was a 6-cyl (the rear bumper) that someone must have installed a V-8.

Then (sorry, I hit the website maximum picture thing):

I had a lot of fun at the 2005 Cobra R convention:

I have also been looking for one of those old IMSA cars. Then one special one came FS. It took me all of 10 minutes to buy it.

I still own the trailer that picked it up (it's a 1998 Pace).

Any more pics or specs on the 65? I've got one that is a long term project that I'm building into a high-performance street/track car.

Jimmy,
The 1965 was built in 1997 for vintage racing (mostly HSR, but also SVRA and VDCA).

The rules in my HSR class (FIA 3.0) require: 289/302, toploader, Lincoln or Shelby brakes, period suspension (springs and shocks are free), 7" wheels, Hoosier TD/Goodyear Blue Dot tires (no radials allowed), fuel cell, 6600 Rpm chip, and the usual safety stuff.

Other (faster) classes allow more: Bigger brakes, 8" wheels, strokers, higher or no Rpm chip, and dog ring transmissions (Jerico).

Don't search for the 2013/2014 rules yet. SVRA and HSR were sold to new owners late last year, and I heard changes will be made.
