Throw out bearing...

Well, it seems like it is time for a new tob/clutch/pp. when the clutch is disengaged, it makes a funny high pitched noise like a bad electric fan while it is cold. It does to make this noise when warm.

I don't have a hoist in my garage. Can a guy do the job adequately with the car ip on jack stands? Thinking of lifting the car as high as I can get with the jacks/stands then using a jack with a block of wood under the oil pan to keep the engine from tipping. Which way does it want to tip?

A buddy said the trans is pretty light. Any thoughts to brand/model of clutch and pp?

Thoughts? Seems like a good winter project when the car is to being driven.

You can certainly pull this job off by utilizing jackstands. I have done it many times this way. You will not need to put a jack or block of wood under the oil pan. The engine is not going anywhere. The most difficult part of this task is removing the bellhousing bolts from the engine. There are three bolts that hold the starter on. Two of them are easy to get to, and the third is a royal pain in the butt. It is accessable from the forward portion of the engine. I recommend using a few extensions to get to it. The two bolts on the top of the bellhousing could be easier to get to, but it is not impossible. Once those bolts are out, you should be able to slide the transmission straight back. Ensure you have a jack underneath the trans once you get all the bolts out. It is pretty tight, but doable without any special tools.

As for clutch recommendations, there are plenty. If you car is stock, then go eith an OEM replacement. If it is mildly upgraded, then a FMS 11'' clutch kit would work well. If you have plans to upgrade the car furter (supercharger, nitrous etc.), then I would recommend a factory 2003 cobra clutch. If you want big power, you'll want to step up to something offered from Mcleod, Spec, Centerforce etc.

Those clutch companies make all sorts of different clutches for different power levels, but I have found the Ford stuff to work well as long as you don't overpower them.
