Exclamation Last NASA event of the season!

NASA is having the last event of the 2003 season at Summit Point NEXT weekend NOV 1-2. It's only an hour from the DC or Baltimore beltway.

Come on out! It's free for spectators! Lots of great cars will be there!

Here's a link to the track's web page http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/
Here's a link to the Event web page http://www.nasaracing.net/03Nov01/index.shtml

Track Map and directions are online. Look for the Mystic in HPDE 3!

Had a blast this weekend. Got to experience my first "4 wheels off" excursion-in turn 1, of course. The brakes got a little hot and me a little too fast. Instead of trying to save it, I played it safe and went straight off into the gravel. Everything was fine after they pulled me out.
I think I knocked several seconds off my lap times. Got to spend several sessions in a "lead-follow" with an ex-race 95 R. Good times.
Missed seeing all the AI gang in the paddock and on track. There were more WRXs than FORDs there!

ongoing noise

The tranny was great, thanks for asking!
All the clunking and grinding that it used to produce is gone BUT...

I still have the some whining noise (although it's MUCH quieter) and I don't know what's left to fix.
The noise has been there for about 2 years. During that time I've changed (all new):
11" Cobra clutch/flywheel/pilot/throwout/fork
tranny (stock Cobra)
alum driveshaft
3.73 gears-Ford *
new bearings/seals *
1 used axle *
*The last three were done by a shop, I did the rest.

The noise is best described as a medium to high pitched whine that is only heard when at speed with moderate throttle input. No throttle or full throttle and it goes away. The pitch gets higher and louder at higher speed. Same in all gears. Can be drowned out with the right CD and enough volume.
I think I have an audio clip from the dyno where you can hear it, let me see if I can find it.

A few other comments from the weekend. I had a few new things on the car since my last track event.
1.New gauges for water temp and oil pressure
2.New tires 4 RE750s (only had 2 new tires last time)
3.Tranny
4.Cobalt VR spec front pads

Gauges were great. OP seemed good all day. Burned a quart of 10W30 each day. Water temp got up to 235 on three of my 6 sessions. Ambient was about 80 both days. Yes, in NOVEMBER. I turned on the manual fan switch once the temp got to about 220. The one time it got to 236, I turned on the heater and brought it back down below 235 in a lap.
Tires were great. Pressures were 40 front, 38 rear cold to keep the tires flat on the pavement with +1 psi on the left side (mostly right handers). I was keeping pace with HPDE 3 (everyone runs R-compound tires but me). Will these get faster when the tread gets worn down. 2 had 200 miles, 2 had about 5,000.
Tranny was great. Very smooth. Still not sure if I'm faster doing 5-6-7 in 2nd or 3rd AND if I should go through 10 in 3rd or 4th. 3.73 gears. I am getting to red line at the bridge in 3rd and coasting to 10. Thoughts??
VR spec pads were great (Hawk HPP-rear). They seemed very consistent and I only had one problem (excursion). I went off once in turn 1 straight into the gravel. I didn't want to risk going off sideways and flipping, so I didn't try to save it I just went straight off. I think I went in a little too hot, not sure if the brakes faded or I my mind faded. The guy behind me said everything looked fine, he was suprised I didn't make the turn.

I posted the dyno video (sorry it's 6 MB) so if you think you can provide some insight into my strange noise, please click here.
You can hear the noise through out most of the video, but it's more prominent at the end. Sorry for the strange cuts.

THANKS!
