New here. Any A/Sedan here?

Just joined this forum. Saw NASA mentioned. Any A/Sedan drivers on here?

Welcome,

I haven't noticed any A- Sedan guys on here other than the ones that run American Iron with us occasionally. What part of TN do you live in. I am from Kingsport.

Dayton, halfway between Chattanooga and Knoxville.
I'm thinking about doing some NASA next year.
Did SOLO I with Jim Pantas and Dave Smith for years.
Also known Gary Henkle for years.

Henkel is a good friend of mine. If it weren't for him I would not be racing.

I took most of my HPDEs in his '70 Boss(not the race car, it is a '69). I wrecked my car a month before the first event, and he said "take mine and put your engine in it". That is a good friend. So I put my 450 horse Cleveland in his car that he has owned since 1980, and went to the track. I ran the wheels off that thing all season in '02. Shugg even got a ride in it.(sideways through the kink at CMP, sorry Shugg) I hope you try an AI race, I think you will like it.

Cool.

SARRC runs VIR, Roebling, Rd Atlanta, Kershaw and Atlanta Motorspeedway.
NASA seems to do more tracks. Yeah, Henkel. Spill check dose not work with least names.... Gary is a great guy. He tried to get me to build an AI car years back when AI first started, but I bought an A/Sedan before I got back by his house.

A/Sedan cars can run in AI, and depending on the driver... some are pretty competitive....so come on out!

Are you coming up to Snowshoe next year?

Hey, Jim

Seriously, I plan to come play with y'all at a few events next season.
There are only 2 or 3 other A/Sedan drivers on a regular basis, plus they stick us with GT-1 cars. You remember Ron Hurst in the '67 Mustang? He's looking for an A/Sedan car, and another driver says he knows a couple who didn't have cars ready last season, so we may have 4-5 next season. There were 6 at the SARRC SIC at Roebling last fall.
Besides I think Smith owes me a beer.... Wait maybe I owe him.
We'll see.

Come on out! Tell all of the A/Sedan drivers we are putting together a great AI Championship series next year, we'll announce the details in a few weeks. We also added Lowes to the schedule on Mar 5-6 - come down and whip Smitty on his favorite track - it's going to be awesome!

What's Ron going to do with his Yellow car?

Hmm. Could he run in AIX?

I believe he can run in AI/X - we'd have to go over his car but I believe that he attached every suspension piece on his car to the existing body/pan framework...

now we would have a problem with him trying to run AI/V...(vintage)

Beau if I remember correctly it was a tubular a-arms and the stock framerails w/smooth inner fenders (ie. took out the shock towers). Similiar to what they do when they install the Mustang II front suspension.

Jim, according to the AI rules if that car took out the shock towers it is not AIX legal, so it would have to run SP.

This is as defined in 7.3.2:

AIX cars must have OEM shock towers in place and resemble the factory build. The shock towers may be modified to facilitate suspension component fitment but must retain the general shape, structure and location as stock.
It sounds as if this car you are speaking about does not fall into this catagory.

I wouldn't want to have someone show up to the track after they have been told the car is legal only to be told it's not when they get there.

Thanks, I believe he smoothed out the inner fenders in the front to make room for the 351C he has in it - so you are right - he would end up in PS or SUO.
