Welcome!

When I changed the gear in my Tbird I had to change the speedometer gear to get it accurate again.

Go on Steeda's website. Find the speedometer gear you need. Buy it. All tolled about $25 with S & H.

When you get it, slip under the driver's side of the car, unbolt the speedo module from the tranny, pop the stock gear off, pop the new gear on, and re-assemble.

There are those who would tell you that the gears fail easily. I've had mine for 25K miles with no problem. The gear is a fraction (like 1/5!) of the cost of any electronic gadget, AND there's no wiring involved!

PS - It's the white 23-tooth @ $15.95 plus S&H.

the speedo gear will correct it somewhat, but its more setup for a 3.73 than a 4.10 gear (even though it says 4.10). Your speedometer will not be correct with the gear, you may want to cancel your order, or you could just figure out how much it'll be off and drive it that way.

A hand held programmer will not work for you either, your year cobra has a mechanical speedometer...

...pretty much the only thing you can do to fix your speedometer is pick up a speedcal from dallas mustang or brother's performance.

here's their websites

dallas mustang speedcal

brother's performance speedcal

in my opinion, it'd be better off to spend a little more and do it right the first time. I went with a dallas mustang speedcal myself and its worked great

it will help it a little, but like you said, it will still be off, especially at highway speeds. The only thing I can think of that might bother you (besides the speedo being a bit off) would be the odometer. Right now with the speedo off your odometer is racking up miles quicker than it would if the speedo was on. With the speedo gear it will be closer to accurate, but the miles will still spin faster than they're supposed to.

So tell us, how's the new speedo gear working?

If you got the white 23-tooth it'll work just fine. To test it, take a cruise on a road with mile marks. Hold your speed at 60 MPH. One mile will take one minute (60 seconds). If it takes you 61 seconds your speed was about 59 MPH. If it takes you 59 seconds your speed was about 61 MPH. You can't hardly read the speedo that closely. And if you're trying to read it that closely you're headed for trouble!
Don't forget to change your oil at 3000 miles. With the 4.10's it's like the engine went nearly 4000 miles.

Had mine for a while, and have done quit a bit of lond distance traveling and have had no problems yet. (knock on wood)
@approx 70mph=5th gear ....approx 2800 to 2900rpms

I think I have gotten so use to them that I wished that I had went with 4.56's sometimes.
