94 purchase

So, I looking to buy a 94 or 95 cobra with around 40-50k miles. Im buying older so that I can still have cash to work on this car( and b/c 5.0's rule). Just to pick your brains, what problems, if any, did yall begin to have at about this mileage. Im hoping to only have to replace a clutch, brakes, and a new suspension. any thoughts would help.

Driving habits play a big part. My 94 Cobra has 107K on it on the original clutch. You will want to find one that was well maintained and if you find one with 40 or 50K then you shouldn't have much to do to it except a tune up, put gas in it, and drive! Usually you can go to 75K miles before you need pads..

Crutch, your Cobra is awesome, but I dont have quite that kinda cash to buy it. sorry. Good luck in your sale.

Cobrabitn I found a Cobra that im considering with 70,000 miles. to mee that seems high. In general at about this mileage should I worry about the motor or tranny in the cobra? thats my largest concern. I will most likely replace the brakes and suspensions once I buy the car. Thanks again for your help

The 5.0 Cobra motor will last a long time if properly cared for. I have over 127k miles on my 94 & installed a supercharger at 126k miles. I've had the water pump go out at 90k & changed the radiator. I have changed the timing chain, but it did not need changing as it was still good. I changed clutches at 100k miles. I had the tranny rebuilt at 120k, still worked but was getting hard to shift so for precationary measure I had it rebuilt. When I put 3.73 gears in I replaced the T lock clutch pack. I had to replace the lower control arms. I have rebuilt the entire front suspension, springs, A arms & all bushings & tie rod ends, inners were wore out but while I was there I replace the outers so I only have to do an alignment at the same time. Besides brake pads & rotors, that's all I have done to it. When something goes out, I usually upgrade, radiator, rotors, clutch & gears.
Now that I type this that sounds like a lot, but in my opinion it's just basic maintance & upgrades on a car with over 125k miles that is driven hard at times, ie: track.

I bought my 94 Coupe with 60K on it and it ran perfect for two years. This year I added open track goodies so I could be a little more competitive out on the course. (Optional). If it weren't for those upgrade voluntarily, it just needed a tune up, new pads and rotors, and that's it. Get the 70 K car if it is in good shape and is in your budget. Then have fun with it. You don't show what part of the country you live in? Is it the Carolinas?

Im looking to spend about 8-10K on this cobra, but I'm pretty flexible. This budget will allow me to modify the car instead of buying a newer cobra and having nothing left inthe bank.

I'm actually in Massachusetts, but I will be taking the car to a nice home in the Great State of Texas. Likewise, I wold not mind traveling to pick up a Cobra; It would be a new place to visit and starting point for my first road trip in the Cobra

Another quick question. Have y'all ever had A/C or stereo power problems because of the underdrive pulleys? One Cobra I'm looking at had the underdrive pulleys removed. should this be a concern of any sort?
