View Full Version : Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo - not worth the effort

Just last night while cruising around for trouble, I was passed by a Mitsubishi Eclipse while driving the speed limit. I decided to make some fun out of it so I punched 2nd gear and flew by it with ease. needed to slow down since 130mph in a 45mph zone would get my license taken away. The Eclipse caught up to me after I slowed down considerably. I noticed this kid wanted more since he/she followed me onto the highway while driving at a reasonable speed, besides that I do not take kindly to drivers who follow too close for comfort. I decided to say goodbye to this pest once and for all after I saw my path was clear to get onto the highway. It did not take much to hit 140mph and leave the little import behind me. There was no way in hell that import would keep up and it disappeared in the distance behind me. Since there was traffic ahead I slowed down to 55 mph. When the import finally caught up and drive along side of me the driver was begging for more. My thoughts were to give up since we had caught up to slower traffic. The last thing I would do is find myself darting around the traffic on the 3 lane highway. That is just plain stupid. Unfortunately the Mitsubishi driver did not think so and pursued a hit or miss path through the conjestion. Looks like I said goodbye twice that night and got off the highway while the little import was darting through traffic. It matters not what you drive, but how you drive or when to give up. Win or loose makes no difference, it is how you play the game. Only risk what you are willing to loose but do not make that your life or the lives of others. There was not much of a challenge there to begin with.

Street racing can be dangerous and needs to be performed with the "super" discretion thinking cap. You did the right thing be letting him move on.

I find it interesting how the little imports don't take a good arse kicking and go away. I had a fart can equiped Honda want a rematch after I put several football fields between us. The road was completly open but I told him to go away. Simply not worth the fuel. I guess they think the fart can needs to warm up before it adds 300 hp to their sewing machine.

Good kill!

You're right about the imports though, they think just because they got a loud fart cannon and some gauges on the pillar it gives them an advantage!
I can't stand taking the time and wasting the gas to keep those guys in check!

It is one thing to open up the throttle on a clear stretch of highway, another thing to play dodge car. The fun is over when there is traffic on the highway. That has got to be one of my favorite things, getting passed by another vehicle traveling twice my speed and just barely getting by to squeeze in between you and the vehicle in front of you. You may as well sign your own death certificate while you are at it. I refuse to participate when it comes to threading the needle in traffic. I have been there back when I was a teenager, but then shortly realized how stupid it really is. Sure anybody can do it, but there is too much risk involved since other drivers may not see you. I would rather be safe than sorry.

I've had so many cars pull that crap on me, and it ALWAYS cracks me up when it's something that wouldn't even be reasonable...

For instance...yea, i'll be drivin somewhere in my 97 Probe (120HP, mind you), and i've had 1, a pontiac GTO, 2 a WS6 Firebird, and 3 a Dodge Viper...yes, dodge viper....tailgate ya, then BLOW on by, weaving off into the distance, making them look "cool". Yea, i've got endless respect for those fellas...tough guys, i can vouch

Foreign or domestic, when it's a complete blowout, does it really make them feel that much better? I personally think it's funny as hell when they do that, especially when you don't even speed up or slow down...cause you know they gotta feel stupid :rotf: either or, they look stupid

It's one thing to pick a fight...it's another to bully

I found the easiest way to get rid of them is with money, ive done my share of street and strip racing and the only thing that seems to make them shut-up is money. I had some guy in a eagal talon (non-turbo) that he wanted to race and i was like you got 2g buy in and thats all it took, off he went
