Need help
I have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I just bought a 97 cobra coupe, after installing new battery, filters(still have to do fuel filter) got the car to start and idle. Hooked up the scanner and i got p1000, p1519 with notation to see p2006. I flushed fuel lines of the old gas in the tank and added fuel treatment and fresh premium. car will start and idle for a minute or so then stall figure fuel filter is shot from sitting for 3 years and the gas that was in car that is causing it to stall.
Car is bone stock with 152k on the odometer. What is the easiest way to troubleshoot/repair this issue? Dont know if it matters but car had no battery connected for the past year to 18 months. Any help would be appreciated. Trev |

There should be a fitting on the fuel rail on the engine that you can hook up a fuel pressure trouble shooting gauge (good tool to have). If this shows that you have a fuel pressure problem, then I'd go for fuel filter and/or fuel pump, in that order.
Good luck.

fuel filter is cheap, and seeing the mileage, it would be worth it. It's probably used up. Welcome to the forums

Replace the filter and also the injectors could be clogged up if the car sat for that long.

Filter done pressure check real low 12 psi and doesn't hold down to 0 in about 5 seconds after shut down. Ran with no problems for 5 minutes after I put in new filter. Still getting code for IMRC bank 1 stuck closed. Got a new fuel pressure regulator will install tonight

imrc's could be a problem. did you try running some Seafoam through it? You suck it from the can, through your vacuum line. It will clean a lot of the built up gunk, might help. I bet your imrc plates need cleaned, or replaced. The imrc's open at a certain rpm, but when the carbon builds up, they have trouble opening and closing. There is a really good write up on the front page of the SCMC website, I believe.

send the seafoam into the motor, shut off, and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Then, start car and run, prepare for smoke show.

Seafoam worked great think i help reduce bug population in the neighborhood for a while. Car is running good no codes. Abs light came on after driving it for 20 miles think i need to replace wheel sensors they are all pretty rusted.

glad to hear the seafoam helped. It makes a neat smoke show, too. the imrc's probably need a real good cleaning, or replace/remove them.
